12 short stories written for this book, 4 questions each (tick the box and a written answer), answers
These 1st grade reading comprehension worksheets give a child one short story per page, then four questions to answer from it. There are 12 stories and 48 questions. Every story was written for this book, so you will not find the same passages on ten other sites.

What is in the 14 pages
- 12 story pages: one story of 42 to 50 words each, in short sentences a first grader can read with a little help.
- Four questions per story: three where the child ticks one of three answers, and one short written answer.
- A drawing box: the space at the bottom of each page is for a picture from the story.
- Last page: every answer, story by story.
The 12 stories
The Red Kite, Pip the Puppy, A Rainy Day, On the Farm, My Little Garden, The Lost Mitten, Pie with Grandma, The Library, The New Bike, Leaves in the Fall, The Fire Truck and The Moon at Night. Two of them fit the season. Pie with Grandma happens the day before Thanksgiving, and Leaves in the Fall is about raking a pile and jumping into it.

How the questions are built
Each answer sits in the story, so a child who is unsure can go back and find it. That habit is the skill being practiced. The wrong choices are not random either. In On the Farm, Ben sees six hens and finds four eggs, and both numbers appear as choices for both questions. A child who reads too fast mixes them up, and the sheet shows it.
The fourth question has no choices. It asks for a short answer such as who made lunch or what sound the puddle made, which moves a child from picking an answer to writing one.

Who it is for
The stories suit 1st grade, ages about 6 to 7, and strong kindergarten readers who can read along with an adult. Read the story aloud together first if your child is just starting. For sight word practice before these, try the kindergarten sight words tracing book. For sounds and word play, the rhyming words worksheets pair well.
Printing
Print at 100% scale, not Fit to page, so the writing lines and boxes stay a good size. The book comes as an A4 PDF and a US Letter PDF with the same pages. Black ink only.
Printing this one correctly
In your printer dialog set Scale to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Fit to page shrinks the tracing letters and they stop matching the size a child's hand is learning.
Plain paper is fine for crayons and pencils. If your child uses felt pens, 100 gsm paper stops the ink bleeding to the next sheet.
