120 nouns by rule (-s, -es, -ies, -ves, special words) and 16 sentences, answers
These singular and plural worksheets take one spelling rule at a time, in the order children meet them in their reading: add s, add es, change y to ies, change f to ves, then the special words like men and children, and the words that do not change at all. Each sheet has twelve nouns, written as “one cat, two” with a line underneath for the plural.

What is in the 14 pages
- Sheets 1-2: just add s: cats, pens, books, apples, shoes.
- Sheets 3-4: add es after s, x, ch and sh (boxes, buses, dishes, watches), and after some o words (mangoes, potatoes, tomatoes).
- Sheets 5-6: a consonant before y changes to ies (baby, babies), a vowel before y keeps it (boy, boys).
- Sheet 7: f and fe to ves: leaf, leaves, knife, knives, wolf, wolves.
- Sheets 8-9: the special words (man, men, child, children, tooth, teeth, mouse, mice) and the ones that stay the same (sheep, deer, fish).
- Sheet 10: twelve nouns that mix every rule.
- Sheets 11-12: sixteen sentences with a gap, such as “One leaf, many ___.”
- Last page: every answer.
Why one rule per sheet
A mixed list from the first page asks a child to guess. Sorted by rule, each sheet is twelve goes at the same pattern, and the tip line at the top of the sheet says the rule in one sentence. Sheet 6 is the first one that mixes two rules on purpose, boys next to babies, because that is exactly the pair children confuse.

The special words
Words like tooth, teeth and mouse, mice follow no rule a child can work out, so sheet 8 is twelve of them to learn by heart. Sheet 9 puts the words that never change (one sheep, two sheep, one fish, two fish) next to a few special ones, so the child has to stop and think rather than add s by habit.

Who it is for
The sheets suit children of about 6 to 8, usually in class 1 or class 2. If a child is still unsure when to use a and an with these nouns, the a and an worksheets come first. For handwriting practice with whole sentences, try copy the sentence.
Printing
Print at 100% scale, not Fit to page. The book comes as an A4 PDF and a US Letter PDF with the same sheets. Black ink only.
Printing this one correctly
In your printer dialog set Scale to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Fit to page shrinks the tracing letters and they stop matching the size a child's hand is learning.
Plain paper is fine for crayons and pencils. If your child uses felt pens, 100 gsm paper stops the ink bleeding to the next sheet.
