144 column sums with T and O headings, no carrying then carrying, answers
These 2 digit addition worksheets set every sum out in columns, with a T over the tens and an O over the ones, because almost every mistake in two-digit addition is a digit in the wrong column. 34 + 5 written as 84 is not a child who cannot add. It is a child who put the 5 under the 3.

What is in the 14 pages
- Sheets 1-2: 2 digit + 1 digit, no carrying (43 + 5).
- Sheets 3-6: 2 digit + 2 digit, no carrying (31 + 37).
- Sheets 7-8: 2 digit + 1 digit with carrying (47 + 6).
- Sheets 9-12: 2 digit + 2 digit with carrying, also called regrouping (37 + 17).
- Last page: every answer, sheet by sheet.
Twelve sums a sheet, 144 in all, and no sum appears twice anywhere in the book. Every answer stays under 100, so there is never a hundreds column to explain.
Without carrying first, and why the order matters
Addition without carrying teaches the procedure: ones first, then tens, one digit in each box. It looks too easy to bother with, and that is the point. A child who has done sixty of these adds the ones column first out of habit, and that habit is exactly what carrying needs. Starting on carrying sums before the habit exists means learning two new things on the same line.

The small box above the tens
From sheet 7 a dashed box appears above the tens column, and only there. When the ones make ten or more, say 7 + 7 = 14, the 4 goes in the ones answer box and the 1 ten goes in the small box, to be added with the other tens. Earlier sheets leave the box out, so a child is never shown a space they have no use for.
If “carry the one” is not making sense, the tens and ones worksheets are the fix. The thing carried is a ten, and a child who has counted tens rods can see why it moves one column left.
Class 1, class 2 or grade 1
In most Indian schools 2 digit addition without carrying is class 1 work and carrying arrives in class 2. In US and UK schools it sits in grade 1 and grade 2 (year 2 and year 3). Either way, print sheets 1-6 first and move on only when the ones-first habit is secure.

Before and after this book
If adding single digits still means counting on fingers, go back to addition worksheets within 10 and number bonds to 10. Carrying is much easier when 7 + 7 is known rather than counted. The mirror of this book is 2 digit subtraction worksheets, and the same sums as stories are in addition and subtraction word problems.
Printing this one correctly
In your printer dialog set Scale to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Fit to page shrinks the tracing letters and they stop matching the size a child's hand is learning.
Plain paper is fine for crayons and pencils. If your child uses felt pens, 100 gsm paper stops the ink bleeding to the next sheet.
