12 sheets: count to 120, tens and ones, compare, add and subtract within 20, missing addends, 10 more and 10 less, adding tens, number bonds, time, tally chart, word problems, answers

These 1st grade math worksheets are a mixed bundle of 12 sheets, one skill per sheet, that together cover most of first grade math. They run from counting to 120 and tens and ones through adding and subtracting within 20, number bonds, telling time to the hour and half hour, a tally chart and word problems. Every sheet has a short tip at the top and the answers are at the back.

1st grade math worksheet: count to 120, fill in the missing numbers
Sheet 1 – count to 120.

The 12 sheets

  • Sheet 1, count to 120: fill the gaps in six number rows. One row crosses 100, from 95 to 101, and the last two go on to 117.
  • Sheets 2 and 3: tens and ones, like 3 tens 5 ones, and comparing two-digit numbers with greater than, less than or equal.
  • Sheets 4 to 6: sums and differences within 20, and missing addends such as 8 plus what makes 13.
  • Sheets 7 and 8: 10 more and 10 less, then two-digit numbers plus ones or plus tens, with no regrouping.
  • Sheet 9: six number bonds within 20, some missing a part and some missing the whole.
  • Sheet 10: six clocks to read, three on the hour and three on the half hour.
  • Sheets 11 and 12: a tally chart of pets with six questions, and six word problems.

Sheet 9 – number bonds.

Why a mixed bundle

Single skill books are good for practice, but a mixed set shows what a child has kept and what has slipped. The tally chart sheet is a good example. Seven children chose cats, 12 chose dogs, 4 chose fish and 9 chose birds, and the questions go beyond reading the chart: how many more chose dogs than cats, and how many voted in all, which is 32. The word problems mix the two operations too. Ava has 9 stickers and gets 6 more, while Leo had 14 grapes and has 5 left, so the child has to decide whether to add or subtract.

Sheet 10 – time to the hour and half hour.

For more practice

When one sheet shows a gap, the single skill books go deeper: addition and subtraction within 20, tens and ones worksheets and telling the time worksheets. Schools in India that follow NCERT can use the Class 1 maths book, which go chapter by chapter through the Class 1 textbook.

Print at 100% scale. The book comes as an A4 PDF and a US Letter PDF with the same pages, in black ink only.

Printing this one correctly

In your printer dialog set Scale to 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Fit to page shrinks the tracing letters and they stop matching the size a child's hand is learning.

Plain paper is fine for crayons and pencils. If your child uses felt pens, 100 gsm paper stops the ink bleeding to the next sheet.
