LKG worksheets for 4 year olds: the order that gets to writing a name
Four is the year the hand catches up with the intention, and worksheets for 4 year olds should follow the hand. Most children arrive at four able to draw a line where they meant to, and leave it able to write their own name. These are the 36 books on this site that suit a four-year-old, and the order below matters more than the list does. In an Indian school this is LKG — the year between nursery and UKG — so if you came looking for an LKG work sheet, this is the list, arranged by what comes before what rather than by subject.
The order that works
Strokes first, even now. If pre-writing lines were skipped at three, do them at four – it takes a fortnight and it makes every letter afterwards easier. Letters taught before the strokes exist have to be memorised one at a time.
Then letter formation, not letter tracing. Tracing a letter teaches its shape. It does not teach where to start or which way to go, and a child who starts an a at the bottom will hit a ceiling at about six when speed is asked for. Start with the arrows book below, then trace.
Lowercase before capitals. Ninety-five per cent of the letters in anything a child will read are lowercase. Capitals are taught first mainly because they are easier to draw, which is a reason to teach them second.
Numbers alongside, not after. Numerals are ten shapes rather than twenty-six and they come quickly at this age.

Their own name is the exception to everything
A four-year-old will practise their own name long after they have lost patience with the letter Q. If the name has letters they have not met yet, teach those letters out of order – the name is the strongest motivation available at this age and it is worth breaking the sequence for.
Now the grip is worth looking at
Four to six is when the tripod grip settles, and it is the first age at which correcting one is useful rather than premature. Two grips are worth the trouble and the rest are not: pencil grip by age says which, and how to fix them without nagging.
